Climbing to the Top with Outdoor Discovery Program

April 30, 2015

The Climbing Wall was one of the popular activities kids participated in Tuesday and Wednesday in the Outdoor Discovery Program.

Fifth, sixth and seventh graders from around the panhandle participated in hands-on-activities and demonstrations over the past two days at the YMCA Trails West Camp in Scottsbluff.

Each year, the Outdoor Discovery Program, hosted by the Nebraska Game & Parks Commisssion, engages students in fun activities that encourage them to be active in the outdoors. 673 students from Gering, Bluffs Middle School, Alliance, Crawford, Bayard, Potter-Dix, and Sidney participated.

Activities included archery, kayaking, fishing, wildlife, air guns, fishing, camping games, outdoor cooking, water quality, and climbing wall and more.

For most students, this was their first time trying many of these activities.
